Macau – If cinema and stage are significantly judged by their mise-en-scene, then in the world of special events, Macau is ideally positioned. The Macau MICE industry recently launched an association catered to meeting planners and event organisers.

Named Meetings, Incentives and Special Events Association (MISE), this non-profit organisation collaborates with MICE professionals so the latter can consider Macau as one of their choice destinations for meetings, incentives and special events. “With over a year of preparation, a new face in the Macau meetings, incentives and special events industry is born,” said Todd Cai, President of the board of directors of the association.

MISE couldn’t have come at a much better time, because it simply fills the gaps in Macau’s business tourism market:

— There are many associations in Macau, but most of them have their attention on exhibitions. Particular MICE segments such as incentives and special events should also get more attention.

— The Macau government announced that one of the biggest goals for the economy’s diversification would be to attract high-level events and international trade markets and to push Macau to become a top choice destination.

— MISE will work to attract international events and promote the city as a destination through new networks. It will also create a universal platform accessible to all MICE professionals with an independent entity for the MICE sector which can also serve as a platform for education.

Macau appears headed in the right direction to reach its tourism industry goals. MISE has the ambition of producing its own educational programmes in partnership with local educational institutions and providing internationally accredited programs, while developing independent studies on the MICE industry and creating mechanisms that aim to promote business entrepreneurship in the local industry.
